Adventure Gear

Our philosophy on gear? You don’t necessarily have to buy new, fancy gear. Chances are, you probably have something that will work for most outdoor adventures. And if you don’t? You most likely have a friend who does.

BUT…when you have excellent gear you love that functions properly, you’re going to enjoy yourself a whole lot more. And go more often. Which is kind of the whole point.

So here are some of our favorite travel and adventure items. Plus a few packing lists and checklists so you don’t forget any of them at home.

Our Favorite Camping Brands and Gear

Mountain Hardwear

Mountain Hardwear is one of our favorite brands for high-quality outdoor clothing and camping gear. We have two Bishop Pass Sleeping Bags and they’re amazing!

REI

We love REI for the variety of gear available, Co-op Membership rewards, and their 100% satisfaction guarantee ( their generous return policy is 1 year on most items).

Arctic Ice Packs

Out of all the ice packs we have tried, these are our favorites so far. The Tundra Series is designed to act like a freezer, but we use them like dry ice most of the time.

Matador

Matador makes ultra-portable camping and travel gear. We have a variety of items, including towels, Pocket Blanket, and FlatPak Toiletry Case and love them all.

Jetboil

We have and love both the Jetboil Genesis System (for car camping) and the Jetboil Sumo (for backpacking). They are fast and efficient – perfect for camp meals!

Our Favorite Hiking Brands and Gear

Mountain Hardwear

In addition to camping gear, we love Mountain Hardwear for hiking clothing as well. In particular, we love their puffy jackets and rain gear!

REI

In addition to camping gear, REI carries a wide variety of hiking gear. They even have used gear available through Re/Supply!

Darn Tough

We love Darn Tough wool socks for our hiking and camping adventures (truth be told, we wear them for everyday as well). Their lifetime guarantee makes these a no-brainer!

Columbia

Our kids wear a lot of Columbia clothing on our hiking adventures, including rain gear. They have held up well for us and are headquartered here in the PNW!

Adventure Medical Kits

We have several different versions of Adventure Medical Kits – one we leave in our car and then we each carry a hiking first aid kit. The kids have the smallest and John and I carry a bit larger option.

KEEN

Our kids have literally been wearing KEEN shoes since they were toddlers, starting with the Newport Sandals. They hold up great and most of the time they even make it through both kids. John and I both have a pair of sandals for summer as well!

Altra

In terms of a trail runner or hiking shoe, Altra is one of our favorites. In particular, the Lone Peak has excellent traction, is lightweight, and comfortable straight out of the box.

Oboz

When looking for a hiking shoe with a bit more stability for uneven terrain or insulation for winter hikes, my favorites have been Oboz. They are comforable and their footbed and arch support is amazing!

Winter Gear

When it comes to winter adventuring, having the right gear can make or break your day (take it from the girl who hates being cold😅). Here are some checklists and snow gear recommendations to make your winter adventures awesome.

Our Favorite Winter Brands and Gear

NOW Bindings

When it comes to bindings, one of our top picks is definitely NOW. The first time I tried their Skate Tech System, I was sold!

REI

REI also has plenty of gear for your winter adventures including outerwear, snowboards, boots, helmets, and more.

Volcom

Volcom makes some excellent outerwear. My favorite snowboard jacket is their 3D Stretch Gore-Tex – it’s warm, waterproof, and moves with me easily.

Burton

Burton is well known for making quality snowboards and snowboard gear. Our kids started on a Burton Riglet and my Kimmy bibs with Living Lining are amazing!

Airblaster

Another brand we’ve had great luck with is Airblaster! Our youngest has been rocking their Freedom Suit for the last couple of years and it’s held up great and most importantly keeps him warm and dry!

Jones Snowboards

Jones Snowboards is one of our go-to brands. We each have more than one and have tried even more. 😅 A couple of our favs are the Hoverboard and Mountain Twin.

Never Summer

Never Summer boards are another favorite around here. It started with my obsession with the Aura (no longer available) and has grown from there. The Mini Proto and Proto line has been perfect as our kids progress!

LibTech & Gnu

Mervin Manufacturing produces both of these brands and I’ve lost count of how many we have. 🙃 Excellent quality, killer graphics, and based in the PNW makes them an easy favorite.
